Job Opportunity: Recreational Grants Manager

Position: Program Planner 3, Conservation & Recreation; Parks, Forests & Preserves; Program Admin

This Recreational Grants Manager position administers and manages multiple grant programs for the Iowa DNR’s Parks, Forests and Preserves Bureau. These grants provide over $4,000,000 annually to local parks and recreational clubs to ultimately improve recreational opportunities for Iowans.

The State of Iowa administers a grant program for the acquisition and development of All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) trails (approximately $400,000-$500,000 annually). This position oversees all aspects of the program, including developing annual spending plans, tracking expenses, maintaining webpages, approving special event permits, and serving as the DNR’s primary point of contact. As the subject matter expert for both programs, this position provides information to county recorders, clubs, customers, the DNR’s Legislative Liaison and other department staff.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF; approximately $1.87M annually) and Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP; up to $3M) programs are federally funded grant programs that provide match funds for outdoor recreation area development and acquisition. The Recreational Grants Manager administers and manages these programs and serves as the DNR’s primary point of contact for both programs. This position oversees all aspects of the application system that is designed to receive, review, and evaluate grant applications from Iowa’s cities and counties. The Recreational Grants Manager provides technical guidance and grant consultation to counties and cities regarding grant eligibility, preparation, and submittal. This includes establishing and providing training opportunities regarding the grant program and application process.
