Great Trails: Providing Quality OHV Trails and Experiences Is Now Available for Download Directly From NOHVCC.org – NOHVCC

Great Trails: Providing Quality OHV Trails and Experiences authored by Dick Dufourd and published by NOHVCC which has been internationally recognized as the must-have guidebook for OHV trails can now be downloaded for free or purchased (hard copy) directly from nohvcc.org. All you need to do is click here, register or login and start accessing the information contained in Great Trails.

The theme of Great Trails is “balancing the needs of the recreationists with protection of resources.” It helps land managers understand that trail planning, design, construction, maintenance, and management are not five separate processes but rather one continuous process referred to in the book as “the Great Trail Continuum.” Applying the “Great Trail Continuum” will result in trails that meet the user’s needs, are fun to ride, and are sustainable. The guide stresses the importance of providing trails for riders that are fun and challenging. The trail becomes the management tool because riders have sustainable trails “they want to ride,” not “trails they have to ride.”

Great Trails also provides the curriculum for NOHVCC’s Great Trails Workshops. The Workshops focus on the design, layout, construction, maintenance and management of sustainable OHV trails. Participants include trail managers; trail construction and maintenance supervisors and crews; engineering staff involved in trail planning, design, maintenance and construction; trail contractors; OHV club trail volunteers; and other interested stakeholders. Hands-on field training is emphasized.

To find out more about the Workshops read Interested in a Great Trails Workshop in Your Area.
