Remembering Max Reid: Friend, Leader, and OHV Visionary

Max was a longtime friend, dedicated supporter, and true champion of NOHVCC. His wife, Peggy, also played an important role in the organization, serving for several years as NOHVCC’s Utah State Partner. Max’s impact on our mission was profound, earning him a well-deserved place in the NOHVCC Hall of Fame. He also served as a trusted NOHVCC Advisor and was a valued presenter at many NOHVCC Conferences, where his knowledge, passion, and storytelling inspired so many.

Max Reid was a true champion of OHV recreation—not only in Utah, where he helped spearhead the legendary Paiute Trail System, but across the nation through his unwavering passion for sharing the Paiute Trail’s success story. His work helped create one of the finest examples of sustainable OHV trail development in the country, a legacy that continues to benefit riders, communities, and land managers today.

One of the many gifts Max shared with us was his remarkable ability to tell a story. Whether he was speaking at a conference, leading a ride, or writing for the NOHVCC website, he had a way of bringing trails, people, and memories to life. His favorite saying before every ride perfectly captured the spirit he lived by: “Let’s make some memories today.”

That phrase now carries even deeper meaning, reminding all of us of the countless memories Max helped create for the OHV community and the many lives he touched along the way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Peggy and the entire Reid family during this difficult time. Max’s legacy will forever live on in the trails he helped build, the stories he shared, and the memories he inspired us all to make.
