CPW Trails Program and Backcountry Search and Rescue host Winter Skills Training for outdoor first responders in local communities

The National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) is pleased to share a recent press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife highlighting the search and rescue training events recently conducted through its Trails Program.

While many within the motorized recreation community readily recognize the direct benefits of these important partnerships—such as trail clearing, improved access, and enhanced recreation opportunities—the equally valuable indirect benefits are often less visible and sometimes overlooked.

The knowledge and skills required to safely operate an OHV or snowmobile in backcountry environments, while effectively responding to the challenges that can arise, are second nature to many in the motorized community. However, these capabilities are far less common outside of this space. The willingness of riders, volunteers, and trail professionals to share this expertise plays a vital role in strengthening cross-agency collaboration and ensuring these critical partnerships can perform at the highest level when it matters most.

These trainings are an excellent example of how motorized recreation expertise contributes far beyond the trail itself—supporting public safety, emergency response readiness, and stronger stewardship partnerships across our public lands.

We encourage you to view the press release at the link below to learn more about this outstanding work and the continued impact of the Trails Program: CPW Trails Program and Backcountry Search and Rescue host Winter Skills Training for outdoor first responders in local communities | Colorado Parks and Wildlife
