LEWIS SHULER APPOINTED AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CYCLE CONSERVATION CLUB OF MICHIGAN

Also sits on NOHVCC Board of Directors and is currently Youth Team Leader

The Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan recently announced the appointment of Lewis Shuler as their new Executive Director. The CCC is one of the largest and oldest off-highway motorcycle and ATV clubs in the nation, dating back to 1968 and with a current membership of over 5000 worldwide. Shuler has been a member of the Cycle Conservation Club since 1986, serving on their Board of Governors since 2000 and was the current Treasurer as well as Youth Program Coordinator. His involvement with youth programs included work with the CCC’s Kids Kamp, Six Days for Kids, as well as being an MSF Dirt Bike School coach and coach trainer. In addition, Lewis is a Life Member of the AMA and AMA Eagles graduate, and is very active in the National Off -Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) currently serving as the Youth Team Leader and on the Board of Directors.

"I was around bikes most of life," says Shuler whose dad Jack both raced and worked as a racing mechanic, as well as doing motorcycle stunts at Midwestern fairs. The opportunities for good trail riding near Shuler's home in northern Indiana were basically non-existent so Lewis gravitated north towards the many trail systems in the sandy, pine forests of  Michigan.

"I began to see that the only way our riding opportunities would still be around in the future was if people got involved and did some of the work to keep the trails open," explained Shuler. "I was especially interested in the programs for the kids and new riders and in '94 I became heavily involved in the CC safety training sessions and have been active with that ever since." Lewis' son Lewis II is now 23 and has lots of years of trail with his dad under his belt, as well as catching the racing bug like Grandpa.

As for his favorite ride area, Shuler won't be very specific- "Anywhere in Michigan," he says. "This new job with the CCC includes lots of opportunities for me and I can't wait for the weather to warm up. We're ready for the new season and we already have12 or 13 big family rides planned for our members. Hopefully I'll be hitting the trails at most of them!"
