Triva Question

The motocross world lost one of its favorite veteran riders this past summer. He was also a historical figure, having been the first American to win a motocross GP in Europe way back in 1973.  Who was this rider that hailed from the great northwest?

(see answer below)

"The Birthplace of Speed!" Bet you didn't know that the very first oil drill anywhere in the world was built in Pennsylvania. Find out where and when by taking a Pictorial Tour of our recent NOHVCC Board of Directors meeting in Meadeville.

Triva Answer

Washington state's Jim Pomeroy was the first American to beat the Euros on their own soil in the 1973  Spanish Gran Prix. He also won the 500cc USGP in 1977 and was a popular and consistent performer stateside in the Inter-Am, Trans-Am and the AMA National series. More recently, Jim was involved in the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) training courses and ran a motocross racing school. The 53-year old rider was killed near his home while driving his Jeep with his 7 year old daughter who was uninjured. A fund has been set up for his daughter Jamie. For more on Jim, click here.
